The concept of themed attractions was an instant hit and, since it opened, Disneyland in California has been visited by more than 600 million guests. Its popularity led to the opening in 1971 of Disney World a resort comprising four theme parks in Florida. Disney parks followed in Tokyo, Paris and, most recently, in Hong Kong, which opened in 2005. Next year they will be joined by another Chinese outpost, this time in the countrys largest city, Shanghai. A familiar formula makes the parks successful disney world hotel and ticket packages and it is repeated around the world. All Disneyland parks have a central fairytale castle, to lure guests in with a turn-of-the-century style street leading up to it and differently themed lands surrounding it. The rides are so dense with detailed authentic touches that repeat visits are needed to see it all. The 3D shows have moving seats, scents are pumped in to match the on-screen action, drops of water are released from above during storm scenes and jets of air are fired from under the seats to convey the impression that creatures are crawling below. The simulator rides take different paths randomly to encourage repeat visits and even the music piped into the parks from hidden speakers changes as guests walk through the themed lands. It is common to see guests tapping the antiques fastened to shelves in the turn-of-the-century arcades to see if they are real or plastic copies.

(Think $25 pizza and $12 beer. I found Lonely Planet’s Norway book very useful.) The debut of Norwegian Airlines’ nonstop service at bargain prices in their 787 Dreamliners from California, Florida and New York certainly is helping original site fuel tourism from the United States. But tourism officials here credit the runaway hit “Frozen,” (the story inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s tale “The Snow Queen” had been discussed at Disney for decades), for helping to put Norway on family travelers’ must-visit list. I don’t think I’ve been anywhere in recent months without a little girl belting out “Let It Go!” the Oscar-winning song from the movie. It is no surprise that kids are clamoring to see where Princess Anna and Queen Elsa come from. No wonder the new Disney cruises to the Norwegian Fjords are selling briskly, though they won’t debut until 2015. The Adventures by Disney trip begins in Bergen. Its famous multi-colored historic wooden houses and picturesque port (we loved exploring the famous Fish Market where we sampled smoked whale and all varieties of salmon) is reminiscent of the fictional kingdom of Arendelle, home to Queen Elsa and Princess Anna.

Disney World surprise doesn’t go quite as planned, video posted on YouTube | abc7news.com
(YouTube) Tuesday, July 08, 2014 Disney World is supposed to be the happiest place on Earth, but one family’s reaction from their son wasn’t quite what they were expecting when they told him he was going there. The family posted a video showing the adorable reaction on YouTube . The description reads: “My wife and I decided to completely surprise our kids with a trip to Disney World. We packed up the car, then woke the kids up and put them in the car.” It only takes a moment or so for their daughter to realize where they are going. She’s excited, but her little brother starts bawling. The story does have a happy ending. The family says the little boy ended up having a great time at Disney World and is asking to go back. Disney is the parent company of KTRK-TV.

Hello, I’m Melanie! My colleague Kevin Rafferty, Jr. , who has brought you “ Every Role a Starring Role ” for the last few years, is on a special assignment and has temporarily passed me the baton to bring you Disneyland Resort cast and community news. One of my favorite experiences as a Disneyland Resort cast member is watching Main Street, U.S.A. don its iconic red, white and blue décor each summer, offering a month-long celebration of our nation great site and those who defend our freedom.
This July is especially momentous for cast members with connections to the military as SALUTE, a new diversity resource group, officially launched yesterday at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts with patriotic ceremonies on both coasts. Cast members participating in SALUTE will help provide a military perspective that will enhance the cast and guest experience.
SALUTE is an extension of Disney’s longstanding support of the armed forces, which dates back to Walt Disney’s service in the Ambulance Corps during World War I and his brother Roy’s service as a petty officer in the Navy.
SALUTE is the sixth diversity resource group at Disneyland Resort and the seventh for Walt Disney World Resort. These groups serve as resources to the company and our cast by sharing the unique perspectives and contributions that diverse communities can offer.
nullAdditional diversity resource groups on both coasts include:
CastABLE: Promoting respect, equality and an appreciation of people with disabilities.
COMPASS (Community of Pacific Islanders, Asians and Allies): Enhancing cast, guest and community relations through Asian and Pacific Islander cultural awareness and business practices.
FAMILIES: Focusing on family-related interests. (Walt Disney World Resort only.)
HOLA (Hispanic Organization for Leadership Advancement): Promoting Hispanic/Latino heritage and cultural exchange.
PRIDE (People Respecting Individual Diversities in Everyone): Serving gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender cast members by providing resources, learning opportunities and a supportive network.
PULSE (People United to Lead, Serve and Excel): Developing cultural, educational and professional opportunities for cast members of African heritage.

Olaf on Summer Vacation – Connect to your Disney social media side with Olaf the Snowman on his summer vacation. Guests can opt for a Take-Along Olaf to include in their photographs throughout the day, all connected to the hashtag #OlafSummerVacation. Participation carries the potential for photos to be included in finale festivities. Frozen Fireworks Spectacular – Speaking of finales every night at 9:45 PM, Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Kristoff arrive at the Sorcerer Hat Stage to introduce the grand finale fireworks display, set to the Frozen soundtrack. Guests can still catch Anna and Elsa in the daily Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom. There’s a sweltering hot rumor swirling around a potential Frozen makeover to Epcot’s Maelstrom ride in Norway as well, but Disney loyalists are hoping this doesn’t hold water – er, ice? Eventually, the Frozen freeze-over will melt, and there are already more than a few of us ready to – well, let it go! The spreading of the Frozen crowd is a respectable move on Disney’s part, and “Frozen Summer Live” is a stroke of logistical brilliance to that end. However, pressing forward to re-theme a classic attraction to promote a fad seems overly commercial and hasty – even for Disney.
